New "Old" song to share

georginavargas0

In 2006, I recorded my first Tango CD, titled *“Por aquellos Tango”*. In 2014, I recorded my second CD, *“Mensaje de Amor para bailar”*, featuring tangos, waltzes, and milongas, all of my own composition. In 2016, I recorded my third CD, *“Inolvidables”*, where I included some tangos that made history in the tango world.

Today, I’m recording again, but this time they will be singles! Little by little, I’ll be sharing new “old” tangos, milongas, and waltzes. Like this beautiful waltz I’m sharing with you today, “Paisaje”.

You’ve probably heard it many times at milongas in the masterful version by Pedro Laurenz’s orchestra, featuring the voice of Alberto Podestá. In this interpretation of mine, I aim to evoke just that version of the waltz.

I hope to keep recording more pieces, especially waltzes and milongas, to share with you and for you to enjoy dancing at milongas. It’s not an easy task, especially financially, since I have to pay for musicians, musical arrangements, and recording studio hours. So if you’d like to support me to keep recording, I invite you to make a donation through one of the links I’ve provided at the end.

To give you access, here’s a Dropbox folder where I will gradually upload all the tracks from my previous CDs for you to download and keep (you can already start downloading them):

Additionally, here are the Spotify and YouTube Music links in case you prefer to listen on those platforms (don’t forget to subscribe if you can—it’s free):

About This Beautiful Waltz

The waltz “Paisaje” is a moving piece with lyrics by Homero Manzi and music by Sebastián Piana. This creative duo is known for collaborating on other memorable pieces, such as “Milonga sentimental”.

Manzi, one of tango's most renowned poets, and Piana, a masterful composer, combine their talents in “Paisaje” to offer evocative and melodic lyrics intertwined with a nostalgic, romantic melody.

Their collaboration was one of the richest in tango and Argentine popular music. During their friendship and joint work, Manzi often spent hours with Piana in Buenos Aires cafés, exchanging ideas and fine-tuning lyrics and melodies. It’s said that “Paisaje” was conceived one afternoon after a walk through the Boedo neighborhood, where Manzi was struck by a scene of trees and dirt paths illuminated by the sunset. Inspired by this visual moment, he wrote the first verses, which Piana later set to music with his characteristic elegance and sensitivity.

“Paisaje” is a painting turned into song. The lyrics describe a scene where time, memories, and feelings merge into serene, nostalgic nature. The waltz melody flows gently, conjuring images of a sunset, a meadow, trees, or solitary paths—all tinged with endearing melancholy. Manzi’s poetry stands out for capturing emotions and transforming them into vivid, universal literary landscapes.

The language is simple yet profound, reflecting themes recurrent in Manzi's work: the passage of time, love, loss, and memory. Piana complements these lyrics with delicate, melodic music, typical of the "criollo" waltz style, which perfectly fits the poetic structure of the lyrics.

This waltz is less known than other successes by Manzi and Piana, but it’s a beautiful example of how poetry and music intertwine to give life to a work that transcends time, inviting us to imagine and feel a *“Paisaje”* that is both personal and universal.
